Better Brain - Better Health

I started meditating in 2014, during my yoga teacher training.   I was a “crisis meditator” at that time, fitting it in when I could, not truly understanding its power and benefits.   It became a daily practice in 2016, when I started studying with Davidji and completed the “Masters of Wisdom and Meditation Teacher Training Program” in 2017.  In 2018, I completed his advanced “Deeper Still” meditation certification, for a total of 500 hours of training.  My husband, John, completed the same trainings and we now teach together. 


During these experiences, I learned about the different lineages and styles of meditation, along with the neuroscience explaining how it positively affects the brain and health.  Its therapeutic benefits are many (click here for “Meditation Made Easy”), and I want to share this amazing tool with others.    I believe that if you are not meditating daily, you are missing out on proven method to up-level your health, happiness and overall well-being.


My meditation practice is my “reset” or “reboot” button for the day.  It has helped me balance the stressors that come with working, parenting and living in a world that is always “on.”     It has taught me that I am not my thoughts, and that I can quiet my thoughts and notice the space and stillness between the chatter.   Some days this pause and quiet is easy to find and some days it is not, but I as come back to this practice daily, it gets easier and I know I am training my brain and rewiring its stress circuits.  I now look back at “life before meditation” and “life after meditation…” and am grateful.

Tools to Naturally Support Your Health

Essential oils are aromatic compounds that come from various plant structures.  Think of them as the “immune system” of the plant.  They help protect plants from environmental threats and insects and ensure survival through pollination.     Each plant’s essential oil has its own unique chemical makeup and benefits.  These plant compounds have been used for centuries around the world for health and well-being.

 

I first started experimenting with essential oils when I became a mom and wanted to “detoxify” my home when it came to cleaners, personal care products and artificial scents.  Besides being poisonous, we now know that many of the ingredients in these common household products are toxic not only to our lungs, but our hormone systems.  The majority of the ingredients have little to no testing or long term safety data in humans.

I learned that not all essential oils are created equal and the industry is not regulated, so paying attention to how the plant is grown, harvested and distilled, is very important.  Many essential oils on the market have harmful contaminants or are adulterated in some way.    This is why I chose essential oils from Doterra and it is the only brand I would recommend to others.  Their oils are third-party tested, certified-pure-therapeutic- grade and the gold standard in the industry.   They also partner with local farmers and generously give back to the communities they source from, building hospitals, schools, water lines and partner with organizations like Mentors International, Days for Girls and Operation Underground Railroad Rescue.
